Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Welcome to the FAQ page for Dyslexia Digital UK™, a private and professional online diagnostic assessment service based in the UK. We provide online diagnostic assessments for dyslexia, dyspraxia/DCD, and ADHD as an SpLD. All assessments are conducted by a Specialist SpLD Assessor holding an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) and full registration with both the SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). On this FAQ page you will find answers to common questions about our services. If you have any other questions please do not hesitate to send us a message via our contact form.

How much does an online diagnostic assessment cost?

£800 - this includes the processing of background information, the online diagnostic assessment session itself and the highly detailed 20+ page diagnostic assessment report that you will be e-mailed the next day. There are no hidden costs.

A small non-refundable deposit (£100) is made at the point of booking; the remainder is paid on the day of the assessment. A formal receipt is always provided.

Payment can be made via Bank Transfer, Revolut or PayPal.

What equipment do I need for an online assessment?

All you need is a computer, laptop or tablet with a stable internet connection. All diagnostic assessments take place online, via a Microsoft Teams video call.

Do you assess for Dyslexia?

Yes, we can assess both children (8+) and adults for dyslexia. Dyslexia is a set of processing difficulties that cause persistent difficulties with reading and/or spelling.

Do you assess for Dyspraxia/DCD?

Yes, we can carry out an online assessment for Dyspraxia/DCD for clients aged 16+.

A SASC-registered Specialist SpLD Assessor with an Assessment Practising Certificate (APC) and specific training in Dyspraxia/DCD is permitted to assess individuals aged 16+ for Dyspraxia/DCD.

Dyspraxia is a term used in the UK to describe problems with motor coordination that are not caused by other medical conditions or illnesses. Internationally, however, the term Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is more commonly used.

Before seeking an assessment for Dyspraxia/DCD from Dyslexia Digital UK™, you must have undergone medical examination (e.g. via a referral from your GP) to check whether your motor difficulties arise from another physical, neurological, sensory or mental health condition, rather than Dyspraxia/DCD. This is a strict requirement of the regulatory body (SASC). Nothing is more important than your health.

The assessment for Dyspraxia/DCD that Dyslexia Digital UK™ carries out can qualify an adult for funded support at college, university or in the workplace. This includes the Disabled Students' Allowance and the Access to Work fund.

A person with Dyspraxia/DCD may be eligible for 'reasonable adjustments' (which may include extra time) in certain workplace/recruitment related tests.

You can learn more about the type of Dyspraxia/DCD assessment that we carry out here.

Do you assess for ADHD (SpLD)?

Yes, we can carry out an online diagnostic assessment to identify the presence of ADHD as a specific learning difficulty (SpLD) for adults aged 18+.

ADHD is unusual in that it has features relating to both mental health and specific learning difficulties. Given its impact on education and work, ADHD can be conceptualised as a specific learning difficulty (SpLD).

The type of assessment for ADHD that Dyslexia Digital UK™ carries out does not provide a medical diagnosis so does not enable access to prescription medication.

However, the assessment for ADHD that Dyslexia Digital UK™ carries out can qualify an adult for funded support at college, university or in the workplace. This includes the Disabled Students' Allowance and the Access to Work fund.

It can also qualify an adult for 'reasonable adjustments' (which may include extra time) in certain workplace/recruitment related tests.

You can learn more about the type of ADHD assessment that we carry out here.

Can I use the report that you give me to apply for PIP?

A formal diagnosis of Dyslexia, Dyspraxia/DCD or ADHD (SpLD) can be relevant to a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claim but eligibility for PIP depends on how your day-to-day functioning is affected, not simply on having a diagnosis.

Some areas where a formal diagnosis of Dyslexia, Dyspraxia/DCD or ADHD (SpLD) may potentially support a claim for PIP include difficulties with:

  • reading and understanding written information
  • following directions and road signs
  • preparing food (e.g. reading ingredients/cooking instructions)
  • managing medication
  • managing appointments and time-keeping
  • overwhelming cognitive fatigue or processing difficulties

Further information on PIP is available here.

Any diagnosis made by Dyslexia Digital UK™ is a formal diagnosis, i.e. an official diagnosis.
